When one person creates a Power BI report from TS, they own its semantic model (dataset) in Power BI. If someone else needs to change the report's selections, they can take over ownership with this workaround.
Symptom
You change the selections of a report in TS, but the change doesn't show in the graphs in TS or Power BI.
Cause
The person who created the report owns it. No one else can change the selections in the report's semantic model in Power BI. Changes made to the selections in TS by anyone else are not reflected in the Power BI output.
Solution
The person taking over ownership of the report and its semantic model does the following.
Make a new copy of the report in TS
- Copy the report in TS.
- Rename the original report, for example by adding "_orig" to its name.
- Rename the copy to the original report's name.
- Run the new report in TS. This creates its semantic model in the Power BI web app.
Connect the Power BI report to the new semantic model
- Open a report linked to the semantic model in Power BI Desktop, for example from a .pbix file you received from the previous owner.
- Change the data source to the new semantic model you created in Power BI. When you open a Power BI file from a colleague, a window usually appears where you can change the data source.
- Publish the report to Power BI.
- Once the new report works, delete the original report (the one renamed "_orig") in TS.
Still stuck?
If the graphs still don't change, submit a ticket and tell us which report it is.
